The Malaika Ndutu Luxury Camp is situated in a picturesque landscape characterized by expansive grasslands inhabited by diverse wildlife. Visitors can observe herds of wildebeest grazing, lion cubs practicing their stalking skills, and newborn animals nestled under the vigilant care of their mothers. This setting represents Ndutu in the southern Serengeti during the calving season, which is recognized as one of Africa’s most remarkable wildlife phenomena. The camp opens exclusively during this period, from December through March, when the plains come alive with abundant flora and fauna.
The seasonal operation of the camp is designed to correspond with the significant migrations of large herds, the presence of predators, and the calving of numerous animal species. Guests staying at Malaika Ndutu during these months experience unparalleled opportunities to witness authentic wildlife moments throughout the daytime, returning to comfortable accommodations, exquisite dining options, and attentive hospitality in the evenings. This unique offering strikes an exceptional balance between adventure and comfort, setting a standard rarely achieved in remote wilderness experiences.
Malaika Ndutu Luxury Camp Period of Operation
Malaika Ndutu Luxury Camp is seasonal, operating from December to April each year. During this period, the Ndutu region becomes alive with the Great Migration: wildebeest, zebra, and their predators converge on the short grass plains for calving, feeding, and dramatic daily wildlife action. Outside this window, the camp typically closes. So if you want the full migration experience, aim for this timeframe.
Tents
Luxury tents
Malaika Ndutu’s luxury camp features 8 luxury tents that are built to offer the safari experience without compromising comfort. Each luxury tent is a standalone canvas structure with a hardwood or sturdy floor, king or double bed, a private veranda, and en-suite bathroom facilities including a hot safari‑style shower and flush toilet.
Family tent
There is one family tent at Malaika Ndutu, designed for small groups or families traveling together. It has two separate bedrooms (so parents/guardians and children can have their own spaces) and often extra bedding for children. The size is noticeably larger than the luxury singles or double tents to accommodate the extra occupants comfortably.
The family tent also includes en-suite bathroom(s), usually two or split facilities to serve multiple people with hot safari showers, flush toilets, and separate basins. Often, there’s a small lounge or common reading area inside or just outside the tent where family members can gather, play cards, read, or simply relax together. Veranda space is larger; views are similarly generous so that you all enjoy the wild alongside intimacy

Staying at Malaika places you near key crossing points, meaning you can witness this event with minimal travel time.
Birdwatching
Beyond the big game, the Serengeti is a haven for bird lovers, and Malaika is ideally located for spotting both waterbirds and grassland species. From vibrant lilac-breasted rollers and storks to eagles and kingfishers, the Mara River ecosystem hosts a dazzling variety of birds. The early mornings are especially active, and your guides can help identify even the most elusive species
