The Dian Fossey Map Room
Virunga Lodge built the Dian Fossey Map Room in honor of Dr. Dian Fossey, the pioneer primatologist who established the Karisoke Center high in the Virunga Volcanoes in 1967. The Map Room tells the fascinating and unique story of the exploration and conservation of the Virunga Volcanoes through an amazing exhibition displayed at Virunga Lodge.
Virunga Lodge opened the Dian Fossey Map Room on 2 March 2017. The lodge also created a permanent exhibition in the Map Room that highlights the “Conservationists and Explorers of the Virunga Volcanoes” from 1850 to 1985, the year Dian Fossey died. The exhibition and catalogue have been curated by Giulia Ajmone Marsan, a writer on historical subjects.
