Activities at Mahogany Springs Lodge
Seeing mountain gorillas in the wild is often described as one of the most thrilling and meaningful wildlife experiences on the planet. Closely related to humans, mountain gorillas share 98% of our DNA and are fascinating to watch in their natural habitat.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda is home to over half the world’s mountain gorillas and has 17 habituated gorilla groups for trekking.
Birdwatching
Uganda hosts over 1,000 species of birds, and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is home to 350 of them, including 23 species endemic to the Albertine Rift. A keen birder can spot up to 100 species in a single day, making it one of Africa’s top birding destinations.
Among the birds you can see are the African Green Broadbill, Grauer’s Rush Warbler, Chaplin’s Flycatcher, Dusky Crimsonwing, and the White-tailed Blue Flycatcher, each adding to the rich birdlife experience of the area.
The Batwa Experience
Moreover, the Batwa themselves created the Batwa Experience to preserve and share their ancient culture. Step back in time with your Batwa guide and discover how they lived and hunted in the forest for thousands of years. This activity requires pre-booking, and guests must make payment before arrival.
Community Tour
Our community tour gives you the chance to discover the local history, food, and culture of Bwindi. During this two-hour experience, your guide will lead you through the community, where you will meet a local healer, learn how the community brews alcohol from banana leaves, and interact with local residents. In addition, this activity does not require pre-booking. Instead, guests can arrange the experience upon check-in and pay directly to the community, which receives 100% of the proceeds.
