Kenya is one of those countries that doesn’t run out of wild surprises and this 4-day safari Adventure in Ol Pejeta and Samburu National Reserve proved it. From endangered rhinos and highland savannahs to semi-arid landscapes and rare wildlife found nowhere else, the journey brings contrast, discovery, and awe each day.

In four days, this safari offers two very different faces of Kenya. Ol Pejeta is polished, focused on conservation, and gives you a close-up interactions with some of the world’s most endangered species. Samburu is untamed, remote, and gives you a rare wildlife in a setting that feels genuinely wild.

  • Largest population of black rhinos in East Africa
  • Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary

Samburu National Reserve

  • Home to the Samburu Special Five

  • High predator sightings (especially leopards and lions)

Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Ol Pejeta Conservancy.

As you arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International airport, you will be received by our driver guide who will brief you about your 4 day adventure.  You will then drive north toward the Laikipia Plateau. The scenery shifts quickly from the city’s buzz to lush central highlands, with rolling tea plantations and glimpses of Mount Kenya along the way.

By afternoon, you will entered Ol Pejeta Conservancy, a 90,000-acre private wildlife sanctuary located near Nanyuki. What makes Ol Pejeta stand out isn’t just the wildlife it’s their deep commitment to conservation. The conservancy is home to the last two northern white rhinos on Earth, and also boasts the largest black rhino population in East Africa. After a short rest and lunch at the lodge, you will set out for an afternoon game drive. Within minutes, will see elephants, buffalos, and a herd of impalas. You will also have a visit to the Endangered Species Enclosure, where the last northern white rhinos live under 24/7 armed guard. Getting that close to the giants almost eye-to-eye is a rare and moving experience.

Later, visit the Sweet waters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, the only place in Kenya where rescued chimps are rehabilitated. Watching them interact, play, and mimic humans was both fun and eye-opening. As the sun set, return to lodge to the sounds of hyenas and distant lions. This wasn’t just a game park Ol Pejeta felt like a wildlife frontline, where every animal truly mattered.

Overnight stay:

Meal Plan: Lunch, Dinner.

Day 2: Full Day in Ol Pejeta.

You will spend your second day exploring deeper into the conservancy. Unlike larger national parks, Ol Pejeta allows for a more intimate experience. There’s less crowding, and because it’s private land, they offer night game drives, walking safaris, and even lion tracking. Early in the morning, you will join a ranger-led lion tracking activity. Using radio telemetry, you will locate one of the collared prides and observe them as they lounged under an acacia tree. This is not just sightseeing, it is science in motion.

You will also get chance to explore the Morani Information Centre, where you will learn about anti-poaching methods, the story of Sudan (the last male northern white rhino), and efforts to breed hybrids to save the species.

The afternoon drive brings more big game, giraffes, elands, zebras, and a cheetah sprinting across the grasslands. You will end the day with a night game drive, something not allowed in most Kenyan parks. Armed with a spotlight and accompanied by a guide, you will spot bush babies, aardwolves, and even a pair of bat-eared foxes hunting in the dark before returning to the lodge, for your dinner and relaxation.

Overnight stay:

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

Day 3: Ol Pejeta to Samburu

After breakfast, you will check out of lodge and head north into Samburu County. As you descend from the lush Laikipia highlands into the dry, rugged terrain of northern Kenya, the landscape changes dramatically. The green disappears, and is replaced by acacia scrub, red earth, and distant mountains.

By early afternoon, you will enter Samburu National Reserve, a 165 square kilometer park on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River. The reserve is known for its arid beauty and rare species not commonly found in southern Kenya. Check into the lodge and have some lunch before heading out for a late game drive. Within the first hour, you will encounter some of the “Samburu Special Five” (reticulated giraffe, Gravy’s zebra, Beisa oryx, Gerenuk, Somali ostrich). This place feels wilder, rougher, and more raw than Ol Pejeta. There were fewer tourists and more moments where you will feel completely alone in the wild.

Dinner will be served under the stars by the river, with elephants occasionally rumbling in the distance and the sounds of the bush surrounding you.

Overnight stay:

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

Day 4: Samburu Sunrise Safari and Return to Nairobi

We began our final day with an early morning game drive, the best time to catch predators on the move. True to form, we spotted a leopard lounging in a tree and a pair of lions walking along the dry riverbed. Vultures circled above, and the day was already heating up by 9 AM.

Samburu isn’t just about animals it’s about survival. You see it in how the oryx moves cautiously across the open plains, how elephants dig into dry riverbeds for water, and how the Samburu people, like their Maasai cousins, live in harmony with the land.

After breakfast back at the lodge, we began our journey south, stopping briefly in Isiolo for some roadside snacks and scenic views before continuing toward Nairobi.
