Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi – Transfer to Tsavo East – Evening game drive

Depending on your arrival time in Kenya, your journey begins in Nairobi, Kenya’s capital. Upon arrival, you’ll be met by a safari guide and driven southeast toward Tsavo East National Park. The drive, roughly 5–6 hours, gives you a glimpse of rural Kenya, small towns, acacia-dotted plains, and distant hills.

Tsavo East, the larger of the two Tsavo parks, is known for its vast, open savannahs, red-dust elephants, and the Galana River winding through. Once inside the park, you’ll enjoy your first game drive en route to your lodge. Expect to see elephants, zebras, giraffes, and perhaps a lion resting under a thorn tree.

You’ll check into a safari lodge overlooking a waterhole, perfect for spotting wildlife as you unwind from your journey. You will also have some refreshments as you relax from the long journey.

After breakfast, head deeper into the park for a full-day drive with packed lunch. Tsavo East is famous for its “Red Elephants” (coated in dust), large prides of lions, and the Yatta Plateau, the world’s longest lava flow.

In the late afternoon, return to the lodge for a relaxed dinner under the stars.

Have a delicious breakfast today, the 3rd day of your 8-Day Tsavo Safari and Mombasa Beach Holiday. And then transfer to Tsavo West National park.  It’s a 2-hour drive to Tsavo West National Park, a complete contrast to Tsavo East. Here the landscape changes dramatically with more hills, lava flows, acacia forests, and springs. Once you enter the park, you’ll visit Mzima Springs, a freshwater oasis where hippos and crocodiles bask in crystal-clear pools. A viewing chamber lets you see underwater life a rare feature in any safari park. Check into your lodge for lunch and some refreshments. Take a short time relaxing before heading out for an afternoon game drive.

The afternoon game drives covers Shetani lava flow, scenic viewpoints, and possibly sightings of leopards, rhinos, and buffaloes.

By afternoon, you reach the Mombasa coast, where the air is thick with sea breeze and the pace slows down. Check into a beachfront resort in Diani, Nyali, or Bamburi, areas known for white sands and turquoise waters before joining the rest of the tourist on beach for a swim in the cool Indian Ocean waters. Spend the evening relaxing on the beach with a cocktail in hand as the sun dips into the Indian Ocean.

Day 5: Visit Mombasa Old Town & Fort Jesus Tour

After breakfast on this day 5 of your 8-Day Tsavo Safari and Mombasa Beach Holiday, you will take a short tuk-tuk ride into Mombasa Old Town. Walking through the narrow, winding alleys lined with carved wooden doors, crumbling balconies, and spice shops is like stepping into another century. The air smells of cardamom, cloves, and ocean salt. Visit Fort Jesus, a 16th-century Portuguese fort that has witnessed centuries of battles, trade, and colonization. The view from the ramparts over the Indian Ocean is incredible, and the museum inside gave deep insight into the cultural melting pot that is Mombasa.

For lunch, stop at a rooftop café overlooking the harbor and try biryani, a spicy Swahili-style rice dish with goat meat, served with tamarind sauce and kachumbari (tomato-onion salad). Later in the afternoon, you will spend shopping for souvenirs in the local Curio Market, where you can pick up handcrafted jewelry, batik fabrics, and wooden carvings before returning back to the lodge for a swim at the beach and enjoy dinner of a seafood platter served right on the sand.

Day 6: Marine Adventures in Bamburi and Haller Park

It is time for a little activity, so you will out head to Bamburi Beach after breakfast, about 15 minutes from Nyali and take a snorkeling trip to the nearby Mombasa Marine National Park. The coral reefs are not as untouched as in more remote locations, but you will still see parrotfish, sea urchins, and colorful coral formations. The water is warm and clear a perfect way to spend the morning. You can opt to go for snorkeling. This usually takes place within the confine of the reef, where you will get chance to see and admire the beautiful sea turtles, corals among others while wearing breathing tubes.

In the afternoon, visit Haller Park, an ecological restoration project built on a reclaimed limestone quarry. It’s a peaceful spot where you can walk shaded trails and see giraffes, zebras, tortoises, hippos, and even crocodiles. It’s not a safari, but it’s a great nature escape without leaving town.

Back at the lodge, book a Swahili massage, a blend of local oils and slow-pressure techniques. By the time dinner rolls around, you will be barely moving, eat by candlelight, barefoot on the beach, the sound of waves a constant soundtrack.

Day 7: Relax on the Diani Beach

Though Mombasa itself is amazing, Diani Beach, located about 30 km south, across the Likoni Ferry, is often considered the crown jewel of Kenya’s coastline. Set off early from the lodge and spend the whole day exploring this postcard-perfect stretch of white sand and turquoise sea. Diani feels quieter and more upscale than Mombasa’s city beaches. Try out the stand-up paddle boarding for the first time and later join a glass-bottom boat ride that offers great views of coral and fish without getting wet.

Lunch is at a beach bar serving grilled snapper and passion fruit mojitos. After that the afternoon is pure beach mode with swimming, napping under umbrellas, and sipping on fresh passion fruit juice. You can hit a local seafood joint known for its octopus curry and coconut rice as you under a palm tree, watched the waves, and listened to the breeze. Diani is the kind of place you could disappear into for weeks.

Day 8: Leisure, Culture, and Coastal Farewell

Your final day of the 8-Day Tsavo Safari and Mombasa Beach Holiday is intentionally slow, walk down the beach at sunrise, watching locals jog, do yoga, or gather seaweed. Breakfast was a spread of mandazi (Swahili doughnuts), tropical fruit, and spiced chai. Later, visit a local cultural center where traditional dances and Swahili music performances showcased the deep-rooted heritage of the coast, even join a short Swahili cooking class where you learn how to make coconut rice and samaki wa kupaka (grilled fish with coconut sauce).

As your flight nears, take one last walk along the beach. There are kids flying kites, fishermen mending nets, and dhow sailing on the horizon. Mombasa doesn’t just give you rest, it reminds you of rhythm, simplicity, and the beauty of slow living.
