Chimpanzee trekking, one of the most popular wildlife activities in Uganda, allows you to step into the world of chimpanzees in the wild. Uganda Wildlife Authority Interpretive Rangers lead a small group (maximum of 8) into the realm of the chimps.

The treks last about three hours and include a maximum of one hour with the chimps, during which you can expect to see them from a safe but intimate distance of 8-10 metres. Get up close and personal with the chimpanzees and discover their beauty, intelligence, and social structures.

Tour itinerary

Day 1 – travel to Kibale national park and afternoon Bigodi wetland tour

Your tour driver shall pick you up from your residence in Kampala or Entebbe at 7am and leave for Kibale National Park in western Uganda. The drive from Kampala to Kibale National Park is about 5 hours.

You will make a stop in Fort Portal town for lunch. After checking into your lodge you shall go out for Bigodi swamp walk you will continue and visit the communities near the wetlands for a chance to learn about their traditions and cultures.

Day 2 – chimpanzee trekking tour in Kibale National Park and transfer back to Kampala

Today you shall have early breakfast and transfer to the Kibale National Park office by 7am where you meet the park guides who brief you about the chimpanzee tracking experience and the park rules. Thereafter you shall set off for the chimpanzee trekking adventure in Kibale forest. The terrain is not very rugged hence your trek will relatively easy. The screams of the chimps will heard from far away and you will be able to easily locate them. You will spend one hour with the chimps and it will be one of the most memorable wildlife experiences. The chimps swing through the trees with a lot of speed while pant-hooting, slapping the tree barks that sounds like thunder, and screaming that is defeaning; done to locate each other in the large territory – it is quite a hair raising atmosphere.

After the chimpanzee adventure you shall check out, transfer to Fort Portal tour for lunch and continue back to Kampala or Entebbe
