Lake Mulehe Safari Lodge


Lake Mulehe Safari Lodge, formerly Bwindi Jungle Lodge, is a beautiful little gem tucked away in the south western part of Uganda in the district of Kisoro, just perfectly and suitably located near both Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park from where travellers from all around the world can enjoy gorilla trekking in Uganda. The Lodge is considerably located for those travellers interested in gorilla trekking or gorilla habituation in Rushaga gorilla sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, and also Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

The Lodge is a perfect lodge option for travellers after peace and quiet for the lodge is a peaceful oasis where silence is broken by crickets. 

The Lodge has a total of 12 cottages categorised into Double, Twin, Single, and Triple and Family cottages. Each cottage at Lake Mulehe Safari Lodge is named after one of the gorillas of Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. All the cottages are en-suite, cosy and spacious, have a private porch each with stunning views of Lake Mulehe. Each of the cottages sits among untapped wilderness with views of awe-inspiring sunrise and sunsets, accompanies by sounds of waters pounding on the lodge’s private beach. All cottages are set apart for privacy. 

Facilities within each cottage include an en-suite shower, flashing toilet, bathrobes and slippers, reading table and a luggage rack.

Activities at Lake Mulehe Safari Lodge

Given that Lake Mulehe Lodge is located just near both Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, the activities done in either parks are what guests staying at Lake Mulehe lodge can do, say;

Gorilla trekking and gorilla habitation: most travellers who choose to stay at Lake Mulehe Lodge often times do so because they are booked to do gorilla trekking in Bwindi or in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. While travellers get to spend only one hour with the gorillas when on a gorilla trekking experience

, travellers can get to spend more time with the gorillas on a gorilla habituation experience.

Golden monkey tracking: this is possible in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, the only place in Uganda from where travellers can encounter the golden monkeys in their natural habitat, and in huge numbers.

Boat canoeing: The Lodge overlooks the very spectacular Lake Mulehe. Guests can take local dugout canoes to explore the lake during which time they should look out for a number of water birds.

Community and village tours: community tours are a very great way to spend free time when staying Lake Mulehe Lodge. Guests can get to interact with the local people and learn of their way of life. These community and village tours can take you as far as to the home of a local traditional healer, as well as learn skills like basket weaving, cooking in a local way, brewing beer, among so many activities. The Batwa experience in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is very exceptional in its own right.

Biking: there are mountain bikes at the lodge that guests can hire and get to bike around exploring the area.

Birding: birding can be enjoyed on Lake Mulehe, in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest or Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. 

How to get to Lake Mulehe Safari Lodge

The Lodge can be accessed by both road and air. By road, Lake Mulehe Safari Lodge is an 8-9 hours road drive from Kampala. Lake Mulehe Safari Lodge is 10km from Kisoro town, 20kms from Rushaga gate of Bwindi and 25kms from Mgahinga Gorilla National Park gate. By air, travellers can have charter flights from Entebbe or Kajjansi to Kisoro airstrip, from where travellers then proceed with a drive to the lodge. It is 13km from Kisoro airstrip to Lake Mulehe Lodge. Lake Mulehe Safari Lodge is 20km from Cyanika boarder.
