Budongo Forest Reserve
Vibrant Holiday Safaris brings you Budongo Forest Reserve which is part of Murchison Falls National Park and the only existing natural forest and the largest Mahogany forest in East Africa. The reserve is located in the Northwestern part of Uganda approximately 3 hours away from Kampala through Masindi and the reserve covers an area of about 830sqkm with 55% being covered by grassland. the forest reserve has been in existence since 1932.
Besides the Mahogany and iron-wood trees, the forest harbors over 9 species of primates,800 Chimpanzees with some being viewed in their natural location while the rest are preserved for Eco-tourism motives.
The primates found in the Budongo forest reserve include the red-tailed monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, Olive baboons, Grey-cheeked Mangabeys, Blue monkeys, and also over 26 species of mammals, over 300 butterfly species, and 470 tree species.
ACTIVITIES
A lot of activities like chimpanzee tracking, Forest walking, Birding, and Chimpanzee Habituation. But most importantly Chimpanzee tracking and Habituation are the activities that are carried out in the forest since it is located next to Murchison Falls National Park tourists can catch more activities there.
ACCOMMODATION
Accommodations are accessible but a few kilometers away from the forest and some of the accommodations include; Budongo Eco-lodge, Kabalega Resort, Hotel Victory Bijja, and Masindi. More accommodation facilities can be found in the Murchison Falls National Park.
