About Akagera National Park

Akagera National Park in Rwanda lies in the eastern region of this country at the border with the African biggest country Tanzania. The conservation process has been done by the African park which has ensured that conservation was steep and this even saw some of the animals getting reintroduced into the park. the park previously was affected by human-wildlife conflicts but this was amicably handled by fencing part of the park which let wild animals outside the park to attack the local people and then by streamlining the policies that allowed the local communities to access by park via community tours and giving them park part of the collections received from the park.

The park is the only one in Rwanda with open savannah grassland and it boasts a lot of animals such as bushbucks, elephants, leopards, waterbucks, lions, kobs, hippopotami and the endangered Rhinos which were re-introduced into the park from South Africa. The introduction of the Rhinos in Akagera National Park means that visitors can enjoy the whole big five animals which inhabit this important national park in Rwanda. Other than, wild animals, Akagera national park is also an important birding destination found in different habitats such as those in swamps, savannah, and the lakeside birds.

Start your 1 Day Akagera National Park Rwanda Safari

Today early in the morning, our 1 Day Akagera National Park Rwanda Safari will start in Kigali city and our vibrant Holiday safaris guide will pick you up to leave the city from your lodge to Akagera National Park. The drive from Kigali will take you about 2 hours and 30 minutes and you will reach Akagera national park for the day’s main activity in the park for game drives. Since this is the only savannah national park in Rwanda, you will get a chance to enjoy amazing animals grazing in the savannah grassland and these will include zebras, elephants, giraffes, rhinos, and buffaloes as you make a stopover when you come close to them for photos as you listen to your safari drivers narratives about such animals species that you are watching. You will spend about four hours doing the game drive and the hours could either be less or more depending on how interesting the peak is to you.

After the game drive, you will drive to Akagera game lodge where you will enjoy the lunch prepared for you by the lodge or you may stop in the wild and have a picnic lunch provided you have come with packed lunch to the park from Kigali.
